How to organize a long script with an outline and jump between chapters

Create paragraph headings, fold chapters while editing, and navigate the outline while prompting.

Key point

An outline organizes chapters inside one script; library groups organize multiple scripts. This guide applies to client versions with Outline and Paragraph Heading controls in the editor. Check available updates if those controls are missing.

Create the outline

  1. Open an editable script and put a short chapter name, such as Opening, in its own paragraph.
  2. Place the cursor in that paragraph, open Paragraph Heading, and choose the action to make the current paragraph a heading.
  3. You can also select text and make it a heading, or insert a new heading at the cursor. A heading must be nonempty and cannot contain line breaks.
  4. Repeat for each chapter, then open Outline above the body to check the order. The outline is a single-level list. Heading names come from the body and save with the script.

Edit, fold and rename

  • Tap an outline item to jump to it and expand that chapter if folded. Hold a long item to preview its full name; release to dismiss.
  • Use the arrow beside a body heading to fold or expand its chapter. Folding changes only the view and keeps all text.
  • If cutting, deleting, replacing or importing would affect hidden text, the app first expands it. Review the selection and repeat the action; it is not replayed automatically.
  • Place the cursor in a heading and use Paragraph Heading to rename it or remove its heading status while keeping its text and manual formatting.

Navigate while prompting

  1. Open the same script in Full-screen, Floating or Capture Prompt, and open the outline from the prompt toolbar.
  2. Wait until preparation or countdown finishes if navigation is unavailable, then choose a chapter and read its body.
  3. Headings remain visible. AI Follow accepts reading the heading or starting directly with the body.
  4. Widen a narrow floating window if the outline control is hidden. Chapter navigation does not control video recording.

Import and reading time

Markdown and DOCX need explicit heading structure; bold or large text alone, TXT and image text do not create an outline. Import uses the shallowest heading level, or the immediately following level when there is one overall title. Other heading text remains ordinary body text. Review the chapter list before applying an import, or add headings manually afterward. Total character count includes headings, while reading-time estimates exclude actual outline headings and account for existing cues.
