How to extract M4A or MP3 audio from a video

Choose a video and output format, save its sound, or pass the result on to transcription.

Key point

Choose a video and output format, save its sound, or pass the result on to transcription.

Steps

  1. Open Tools > Extract Audio and select one video with an audio track using the system picker.
  2. Wait for inspection and check the selected video and track information. Note any default-track message for multitrack input.
  3. Choose M4A for AAC audio or MP3 when an MP3 file is needed. MP3 is fixed at 192 kbps. The first default is M4A; later uses remember your last format.
  4. Start extraction and wait for processing, verification and saving. Check the selected format before each task.
  5. Play the result, open or share it, or use Audio to Script to pass the same file to transcription without selecting it again.

Options, limits and troubleshooting

  • Results are saved under Music/Tdx Teleprompter/Extracted Audio. Continue Extracting keeps already saved audio; Delete Audio deletes the current result, so check before confirming.
  • This produces sound files, not text. It runs locally, keeps the source video, and does not require access to the whole media library.
  • Files with no audio, protected content or unsupported codecs may fail. Free storage before retrying space errors. Picking a file does not guarantee the device can decode it.
  • Cancel cleans unfinished output; a result already saved successfully is retained. If the process is interrupted, reopen and restart as prompted rather than expecting encoding to resume at the old percentage.
