How to turn SRT subtitles into a script or TXT file

Choose an SRT, compare extraction and format conversion, then export TXT or save a new script.

Key point

Choose an SRT, compare extraction and format conversion, then export TXT or save a new script.

Steps

  1. Open Tools > Subtitle Toolbox, tap Select SRT File, and choose one .srt file using the system picker.
  2. Choose Extract Script for readable prose, or Format Conversion to retain subtitle-body line breaks, spaces and style tags. Both remove cue numbers and timestamps.
  3. In extraction options, optionally enable removal of adjacent duplicate subtitles and merging into natural paragraphs. Duplicate removal is limited to identical nearby cues, not the whole document.
  4. Review the preview and open the full view to compare Processed Result with Original Subtitles. Copy the full text if needed.
  5. Export through the system save picker to create UTF-8 TXT, or choose Save as New Script and confirm a title and group.

Options, limits and troubleshooting

  • TXT export follows the selected mode. Save as New Script always uses the cleaned extraction result, even while viewing Format Conversion; check Extract Script before saving.
  • Extraction cleans supported basic style tags and surrounding whitespace, then applies your duplicate/paragraph options. Music, applause and speaker text still need review.
  • Input is one SRT up to 10 MiB and 200,000 decoded characters. Fix reported cue or timeline errors at the indicated line; malformed cues are not silently skipped. Convert uncertain encoding to UTF-8 and retry.
  • This tool does not recognize video/audio, edit timelines, export SRT or produce WebVTT. It never overwrites the source SRT. If export fails, the preview remains available for another save attempt.
