How to clean script formatting and punctuation

Choose a text source and layout preset, compare the result, then copy or save a new script.

Key point

Choose a text source and layout preset, compare the result, then copy or save a new script.

Steps

  1. Open Tools > Script Cleanup. Paste text, import TXT/Markdown/DOCX, or choose a local library script and verify its body.
  2. Edit the input if needed. Text must be nonempty and no longer than 200,000 characters; split longer scripts first.
  3. Choose Teleprompter Cleanup for shorter reading paragraphs, or Standard Cleanup for ordinary article layout.
  4. Start cleanup and wait. Excess-space cleanup, punctuation normalization, abnormal-line merging and paragraph formatting run automatically; they are not individual switches.
  5. Compare Cleaned with Original, checking numbers, links, names, meaning, punctuation and breaks.
  6. Copy Result for use elsewhere, or Save as New Script with a title and group. Choosing an existing script as input does not overwrite it.

Options, limits and troubleshooting

  • This tool uses local rules, not generative rewriting. Presets mainly change reading paragraphs and do not promise a new tone or meaning.
  • Clean Extra Blank Lines in import previews is only light whitespace cleanup, not this full operation.
  • If safety checks fall back to basic formatting, compare the result with the original; not all rules have completed. Try another preset or edit manually if the layout is unsuitable.
  • If the script-count limit prevents saving, copy the result first and follow the page guidance before leaving. Cleanup itself does not upload text.
